93 F - Tim Perks to try out with Blizzard

*EDIT: The OCN Blizzard have a player coming to try out on Monday and it looks like he will be a dandy.

Here are his vitals and scoring info.

Tim Perks - 1993-05-20
Birthplace: Oxford, MI, USA
Age: 19
Position: F
Height: 6'2
Weight: 185lbs

I think this could be a real solid pickup for the team. The kid played 9 game and scored 3 goals in the third highest pro division in Sweden.

He's big and I figure he can score.

Apparently a few teams from the NAHL wanted him too. His agent Andruw Bourgeouis out of Brandon (also represents Dusik and Northtars forward Brendan Barron) says he decided to come to Manitoba.

Perks left Sweden early this week and has been back home in the US.

I'm told his mother is booking his flight right now and he's expected in Manitoba on Monday.

This is better than a trade, don't give anything up and pick up a kid who's been playing in a great Swedish hockey system.

Perks was at this year's Windsor Spitfires camp and hopes to receive an NCAA scholarship, so I assume he'll play out the rest of his junior career in Jr.A

    1. Playing hockey. He was playing the top U20 development league and playing with the pro squad.

  2. If he wants a scholarship why was he playing in Sweden? I got a bad feeling about this one, i hope i'm wrong but i would rather have seen the Blizz pick up a guy like Kindersley just got from Ft. Mac. Hope he's what we need up front though. Derek's been busy by the looks of things.

    1. Why would you rather them trade assets for a player when they can pick up a player essentially for free? I think he wanted to give pro in Sweden a crack but with the NHL lockout at a standstill players are starting to trickle down.

Essentially that's what's been happening over seas, another 94 born defensemen from IFK left the club the same day, it's what happens in a lockout.

  3. An interesting pick up no doubt. It will be interesting to see his game and hopefully he'll be the top 6 guy we've been missing if not top 3.

    1. I have a feeling he might be, he played 10 games pro against men and did well offensively. Seems like he has some grit too having picked up 30 points, although the hockey overseas is much less physical.

  4. i wonder if this is the trade Derek talked about in his interview last night or could there still be somthing else to come.

    1. I doubt it, since this isn't a trade it's a signing. He discussed deals on the table for a trade. I assume he's still working on something.

  5. Playing pro and still NCAA eligible? Something doesn't jive.

    1. According to his agent D 1 in Sweden is a non paid league for a majority of the teams and Perks was on a J20Elit player contract when playing for the big club.
