A panorama shot I took of tonight's second period action. |
OCN dominated the play in the first period, leading in the shots on goal 6-0 for the first five minutes. It felt like Dauphin barely made it past the red line in the first period.
I wrote before the game that staying out of the box would be crucial to a win tonight, 8 penalties for OCN, Dauphin scored on one of them just 20 seconds into the third period. An awkward angle shot that snuck through the leg of McDonald and the post off the stick of Guillaume Naud.
Waskewitch and Baptiste in warm ups. |
A brutal cough up by Tim Kavanaugh in the slot to Gaudet let the Kings tie things up and an awkward bounce on a puck play by McDonald would give Sinatynski the game winner.
It was probably the most exciting game I've seen all year, great hockey, pace and speed and the competitiveness between the two teams was intense. Two fights and plenty of chippy play and after the whistle physicality gave the game a playoff like feel.
Justin Waskewitch made his debut tonight, his hands were there, on the power play he made some pretty slick moves, but you can tell it had been awhile since he played. It'll come, the kids got some supreme talent.
The Blizzard's parade to the penalty box is what ultimately cost them the game.
It's not an excuse but the Blizzard will be much improved when healthy with the likes of TJ Constant, Garick Gray and Tagoona back from his suspension.
Here is Clay DeBray and his thoughts on tonight's game.
Being Crudical: Once again, Disciple had cost a loss to ocn, in the third period.!! Why is that ?? Is there Attitudes leading to frustration with the players ?!! if so then the coaches have to set examples....so that players can adjust to. Keep in mind that play-offs are approaching quickly !!!! So Come on Ocn your more a better team, than that ! Go Blizz Go.....
ReplyDeleteI see two coaches standing on the bench with no control of their hockey team at all. When one of your best defense man, mouth's off and gets a 10 minute misconduct with 12 min. left in the third period, tell's me allot about the actual control that these two coaches have.
ReplyDeleteI know McDonald has won games for us, but his mistake cost us the game. No excuses here....
Waskewitch will be a good help when he gets to know our system.
What exactly are they suppose to do and we don't know what is being said so don't think that is the reason for our loss. I am sure the boys are at the rink skating or working out and being educated to why they fell short. They need to skate away and keep their mouths closed but blaming the coache?
DeleteThe Kings knew how to get at the boys to draw penalties. Florence however called some pretty crappy calls as well. The positive side is that we are no doubt the stronger, more skilled team. Take away the two goals that were give aways and we have a different outcome. No excuses though we lost the game because of us not the kings. Let's getter done tomorrow in Swan boys.
ReplyDeleteYou are correct, teams know that the way to beat OCN is to goad them into taking penalties. No matter how good your PK is you cannot in any game, especially against a divisional rival like Dauphin take 8 penalties. Especially against the top ranked PP squad in the league. Dauphin got deeper too this weekend by picking up Van Teeling and Vanscourt a former WHL puck moving D-Man from the BCHL.
DeleteAnything happening on the trade front today Brad other than what's posted on the MJ site?
ReplyDeleteI don't think the Blizzard will make any moves today. Perhaps over the next week they will. If something does come up it will be here.
DeleteBlaming maybe ?!! Head Coaches Have The Final Say !! It All starts from their office, during practices, and games !! Use Profession, lead as examples and only then we'll see results !......Positively Thinking !!! Lets Go Ocn !!!....Pull em Socks and Be Co nsitent !!!! Go Blizz Go.......
ReplyDeleteno Kajon yet? heard their going after him
ReplyDeleteI have Cajun spice in my kitchen! Although I don't think it would be nearly as effective as Kajon McKay. No there has been no deal made by the Blizzard since Tagoona/ Waskewitch on Monday.
DeleteFlorence made some crappy calls????? That's never happened before! *tsk tsk*
