Where They Stand 1

This is a new segment that I'm going to try and complete every week on Wednesdays. Essentially what it's going to be is a look at where the Blizzard stand league wide in a variety of statistical categories....

Where they stand.... Standings Overall #1

The Blizzard are first in the MJHL after tonight's win based on goal differential over the Winnipeg Blues (3-0)

Where they stand.... Standings Sher-Wood #1

Since they are first in the league... they are clearly first in their division as well. The Virden Oil Capitals (2-0-1) are right on their tails with five points followed by Dauphin (1-1), Neepawa (1-1), Waywayseecappo (0-2-1), and Swan Valley (0-2)

Where they stand.... Goals for Overall #2 (13GF)

The Winnipeg Blues have scored one more goal per game than OCN has (3 goals extra) but the Blizzard are in a comfortable place in second overall. The Virden Oil Capitals have the third most goals in the league with 11, followed by Selkirk (9), and Waywayseecappo (9). The Swan Valley Stampeders have scored the fewest goals in the league with just 2.

Where they stand.... Goals Against Overall #1 (4GA)

The Blizzard, through the first three games of the season have the best defense statistically in the league. Dauphin, Portage and Steinbach have all allowed just one goal more than OCN on the season.

Where they stand.... Goal Differential #1 (+9)

The Blizzard have the best goal differential in the league, which is what slots them ahead of the Blues in the overall league standings. The Blues have a differential of (+8)followed by Virden and Portage (+2). The Winkler Flyers have the worst goal differential in the league at (-8)

Where they stand.... Powerplay #4 (0%, 0/9)

You might be asking yourself...#4??? Only three teams have scored on the powerplay this season. The Virden Oil Capitals (62.50%) have been deadly early on going 5/8 and sit first in the league, followed by Neepawa (18.75) 3/16, and Selkirk (9.09%) 1/11. The rest of the teams in the league are 0 for.

Where they stand.... Penalty Kill #1 (100%, 15/15)

The OCN Blizzard stand atop the Penalty Kill rankings over two other 100% teams (Portage, Swan Valley) the Blizzard place first as they've killed off at least 10 more penalties than those two teams. The worst Penalty Kill belongs to the Waywayseecappo Wolverines (61.50%, 8/13)

Where they stand.... Shorthanded Goals For #1 (2G)

The Blizzard and Winnipeg Blues (1) are the only two teams who have scored shorthanded.

Where they stand.... Shorthanded Goals Against #1 (0G)

Only three teams have allowed a shorthanded goal against, and all teams have allowed just one (Selkirk, Swan Valley, Waywayseecappo).

Where they are best (OCN's top ranking in any given statistic).... Shorthanded Goals Against, Shorthanded Goals For, Penalty Kill, Goal Differential, Goals Against Overall, Standings Overall, Standings Sher-wood - #1

Where they are worst (OCN's lowest ranking in any given statistic).... Powerplay - #4

*Expect these to change DRASTICALLY next week. As some teams have still only played two games, and in cases like Swan Valley both were against the same team.
