The Swan Valley Stampeders have received a "severe sanction" in the words of MJHL Commissioner Kim Davis for what could be called an illegal roster.
The Stampeders played 10 games between the dates of October 25th to November 13th with 26 carded players which by some could be considered a severe roster violation. MJHL teams can only carry 25 carded players at this point of the season.
The Stampeders went 6-4 during that span beating the OCN Blizzard twice along with the Virden Oil Capitals, Winkler Flyers, Portage Terriers, and the Neepawa Natives.
In some Jr.A leagues that infraction of league rules would result in an automatic loss of points along with possible supplemental sanctions such as a $500 fine.
According to Davis, in the MJHL there is no set punishment for carrying more players than allowed by the league, so in essence the sanction is up to Davis' discretion.
Davis confirmed there would be no loss of points or changes to the standings as a result of the infraction.
Davis said the Stampeders have been sanctioned monetarily along with a sanction affecting their roster abilities for the rest of the season.
An anonymous source says the Stampeders have been fined $1,000 and lost 2 of their 45 player cards for the season (each team can only have 25 players carded at a time until December 1st when the number drops to 23, but can burn through 45 in a season.)
It seems that the Stampeders are lucky they don't play in the "other" leagues that would have taken away points for that infraction as they would move from 30 points on the season to 18.
The OCN Blizzard would have seen their numbers improve to 20-5-1 good for 41 points. The Stamps would then be second last in the Sher-Wood division with a record of 8-14-2 , only four points up on Neepawa who would gain two points.
Other teams that would gain two points are Winkler, Virden and Portage. Putting them at 20, 27, and 23 points on the season respectively.
Davis was willing to answer questions over the phone but did not want to record a statement.
** Note: I did have to readjust some numbers that were typo's. To be clear the Stampeders had 26 carded players, only allowed 25. Clearly this error justifies my crappy radio salary!**

is your math screw up or what? You keep referring to dropping from 25 cards to 26 cards and later dropping from 25 cards to 25 cards...by my math, that isn't a drop. So what's the real math here buddy?
ReplyDeleteI must have been doing Stampeders math. All fixed, thanks for the heads up.
DeleteRookie mistake by Swan GM, but the 6th healthy scratch each night isn't much of an advantage, if any. With Noel playing 90+% of games that 3rd goalie was likely irrelevant in Commish's eyes.
ReplyDeleteGreat reporting Mr Karp, I always like the "insider" anonymous sources, or else this info wouldn't be forced out.
ReplyDeleteProbably better for Blizz so they can play WayWay in 1st round and let Stamps and Dauphin beat each other up. don't think we want Stamps in 1st round.
Stampeder math? wow nice ignorant comment for someone who speculates on what happened in the situation. Thats like saying you are such a fantastic sportscaster you choose to work in OCN instead of Toronto.
ReplyDeleteIs it really that offensive?
DeleteI really don't see how it's anything like saying I'm a fantastic sportscaster and I choose to work in OCN instead of Toronto.
Also none of the above is speculation.
If you couldn't figure out it was a typo, you might need some help swan fan. Why don't you cry some more about such a mean comment like Stampeder math. Are you gonna shoot up your workplace today?
ReplyDeleteStampeder math or Roughrider math! Either way the calculation for both of these teams didn't add up properly and as such was costly.
ReplyDeleteIt wasn't a typo it was sarcasm at it's finest. Whether you're a Blizzard, Blues, Stamps or a Kings fan you have to take it as face value, Funny on hehalf of a math error in Swan! Confirmed by Davis himself.
I don't think one should begrudge the Blog owner of such jocularity. Frustrations should be directed at The Swan River GM.
